The other weekend project involved
replacing the Stotz-Kontakt breakers (green push in,
red release) with modern (and functional) breakers. A friend machined two very
simple breaker panels and after spending a few hours to complete an electrical
'plan' for the boat, we installed the properly rated breakers in the new
panels, mounted the panes right on top of the existing Tayana panel (using
contact cement and screws) and reconnected the wires we had carefully marked
from the old panel.
I had no luck finding original Stotz-Kontakt breakers but I now have a healthy supply in
case anyone is interested in spares/replacements. I have no idea what they're
worth. Contact me off list if you're interested.
Anyone know
where to find the Mitsubishi breakers for the AC side? Specifically, I need a
30A to replace an existing 50A.

Jim, I have an 84 V42 and have replaced
some 110 breakers. The originals were made by Mitsubishi, were big and black.
An original was replaced thru another subscriber on Sailnet, and the yard here
has a supply of a different brand from a dealer in NC. If you want I'll ask for
the dealer name...

I saw in the latest TOG that you needed
info on the circuit breakers with the green push button. These breakers are
made by ABB. The US contact is Jeff Haynes email (jeff.haynes@us.abb.com)
phone (1-888-385-1221). The ABB part number for a 20-amp breaker is S91-B20 S2.
When you contact Jeff he can give you the number of your local distributor.
These items are a special order and are fairly expensive ($45 each). Good Luck

I have been from Jeff Haynes to ABB
Germany, to ABB Singapore and was informed that they no longer make the S91-B-S2, that they have discarded the worn out tooling used to
make these breakers. If you know differently please let me know.
Thanks, Jim January 2001

Hi
All,
This is my first posting. I think this a
great site with excellent information and opinions. Some personal details
follow at the end.
About 3 weeks ago there were some
postings related to Circuit Breakers (Joe Ghiotti and
Roger Morgan and others). I have
successfully repaired several breakers with two different fault types.
1. Breaker is slow/difficult to set especially in cold
weather. Fixed by adding a very small amount of lubricant to
the spring on the "set lever".
2.
Breaker does not set. Fault: Broken wire
spindle holding the set button (green). Repaired by replacing the spindle with some welding rod honed to
the right dia. (2.5 mm). I have some photos and I can provide a more
detailed description.

I thought longer on the original comment.
Is your power connection on the pier GFI? My understanding is that a lot of
chargers will not work with a GFI, Statpower is one of them. I also have a
galvanic isolator. However, piers in our marina do not have GFI. I did run
across the GFI problem in the yard. Blew the breaker in a New
York minute.

Nicholas,
The circuit breakers are "Stotz Kontakt S901-G 12-24
VDC". Can you give me the number to Minnie's, I
cannot find them when I do a internet search.
On the autopilot side, from what you are saying the short linear drive 2
model is more than enough to handle your V-42, is that correct?
Thanks for the help,

They are actually made by ABB. A few years back I made contact with their Head Quarters in Germany. The put me in contact with their main US Office. They did some checking and ventually determined that these were no longer available. At some point I was put in touch with an office in Singapore but they never returned the e-mail.
Good luck! I hope you find some. I could use one.

I did find Mitsubishi breakers the BH-K
type at Custom Marine Services (cmsquick.com)
for 68.00 each. I haven't received it yet to verify if it will indeed fit the
panel, should know in about 10 days.. but thanks
