These pictures show the removal of the partially rotten sampson posts from my CT37, hull #20. On my boat, the sampson posts and a wood spacer were joined at the bottom by a 1/2" SS solid rod, set into place at the bottom of the forepeak / chain locker, and then some type of resin was cast around the bottom of the posts. At its deepest point, the hole left by the removal of the posts is 13 1/2". The posts were cut at a compound angle at the bottom so that they would conform to the angle of the hull.
