03/26/05 These pictures were taken by Rudy Heller of his boat Pelagic, hull #373. They show some of the work done to replace chainplates. The yard (Embree Marine) accessed and removed the bolts from the outside. They first drilled small holes all the way through the hull from the inside out next to each bolt. Then, using the small holes as a guide, they drilled larger holes from the outside over the bolt heads. They were then able to break the bolts loose from the steel backing plate and install new bolts. The wood blocks inside were all dry and in good shape. After the new chainplates are installed, the holes in the hull will be repaired. There are two pictures of the old chainplates showing corrosion where the plates went through the deck.
